Choosing Floor Tile Design Patterns

for a home can be both exciting and daunting. The floor is the biggest component in any interior design project and often gets left until last unless the home is under new construction. But what to do when redecorating a home and the floor tile patterns are not to your liking?

It can be a greater task to change out old tiles.Floor tile rug design

Wendy was challenged by a barroom floor with stark white tiles. It would be a greater expense and headache to change out the entire room so we created a  canvas rug  using the design from the Mexican tile used on  her new counters. The mottling in the center serves to conceal spills and dirt more easily and looks more interesting than a solid color.

Mexican Floor Tile Design Patterns

This is creating floor tile design patterns at its best: You want a particular design but with certain colors.  We can do that. For years we have been fascinated with Mexican floor tile designs – this authentic floor tile because they are hand painted. Each of the tiles on our canvas rugs are hand painted and tinted for an antiqued look. Although we use designs taken directly from traditional Mexican tiles we play with the ‘grout’ colors surrounding the tiles and the base color of the canvas rug to match exactly the colors required for the interior design specifications.  For an example see custom kitchen rug in blue.

Recreating a Tile Floor Design

Another venture into floor tile design patterns came to us via Susan, who once lived in Bali and now resides in Costa Rica. She showed me a photo of a home in Bali with a terra cotta floor tile design framing a border of green tiles, and another border of cheery yellow tiles with an ivy design.

Susan decided on a canvas rug replicating  these floor tiles working with the décor and  dark terra cotta flooring in her home.  We inncorporated a green tiled  border,  a yellow and green ivy design border  and at  the center – yellow tiles.  We used a  hand  tinting technique on the yellow tiles in  the  center making the tiles look   3-dimensional.

A Beautiful Option for the Floor

Whether you are decorating or redecorating replacing tiles may be complicated or costly. Or you may want a fresh new look to compliment the floors you have. A hand painted canvas rug with your specifications of floor tile design patterns is an economic and creative option.
