Color and Design: Home Decorating Ideas
During a transitional time in my life, an artist friend had asked, “So, what is it you want to do?” I thought deeply, focusing on what it is with art I wanted “to do.” After a few moments my clarity and answer came: “I want to bring color into people’s homes, creating beauty and working on home decorating ideas with my art.”
The lovely part about this is that people constantly bring color into my life. Color is all around us in different combinations, contrasts, shades. When I see a beautiful garden it’s the mixtures of the colors combined more than the flowers themselves that attract my eye. It was interesting to pinpoint this goal and the joy I get from working with my clients to create something unique for their homes (or businesses).
Incorporated Design Idea
With one of my first custom canvas rug projects, my client Anne had done extensive remodeling to her home. She was a wealth of creative ideas and I appreciated seeing and hearing about the work she had done. She asked if I could re-create a design from her living room rug to be used as a canvas runner in her kitchen. Envisioning a Persian carpet, I hesitantly replied, “It depends on the rug.”
Later, upon reviewing photographs of the rug, I discovered parts of the design that would work really well for a kitchen runner rug that she had commissioned me to create. Using colors similar to those of the larger rug, I added my own design flair; the end result produced a one-of-a-kind home decorating idea.
Painting is often a solitary job and one I enjoy very much. The added pleasure of visiting people in their homes and business, brainstorming home decorating ideas and color schemes continually opens up new vistas. It’s like seeing a lovely garden and getting to know the gardener as well.
