Designing for a Kid’s Room Creates an Opportunity for Fun
Kids room decor is such a fun way to decorate, bringing out the child in all of us. Children revel in their passions and there can never be enough of whatever they are obsessed with. A little girl who loves purple cannot have too much purple! As well as a passion for cars or a hero or an animal, children are wholly invested in their preferences.
This is when an interior designer gets to play! Creating kids room decor for a child with a passion can be tricky as it must also provide for practical needs in addition to the element of fun. Certain details of kids room decor can be impermanent to allow for growth and the ever changing passions of a child’s mind.
Adding Details that Make the Room
Sheila Wach of Casa del Pacifico had the pleasure of creating kids room decor for the first time for a project located in Ojochal, Costa Rica. This little girl’s delight, toucans and the color purple! Surprise, what little girl doesn’t love purple, (unless she’s a pinky girl!)?
Sheila designs all of the furniture in her projects so she was able to add the detail of toucans to the bedroom furniture. The bunk bed with the double mattress on the bottom and the single bed on top was made of beautiful hardwood with toucans carved into the piece. Because Costa Rica is home to many types of toucans the furniture is a reflection of the nature surrounding the home and also the little girl’s love of the colorful birds.
And so, because the birds are so colorful another element of the toucan was added with a Laurel’s Originals hand painted canvas wall hanging. Canvas wall hangings are perfect for the tropical climate as they are sealed with a resistant finish that prevent molding and are easily cleaned.
The painting of this toucan took a whimsical turn when Sheila selected a deep purple that matched the color of the pillows and throw blanket on the bed, The wall where it was hung was painted a lively lilac and the coloring around the eye of the toucan matched this color perfectly.
The Last Detail
Another fun idea created for this kids room decor was a tent made of a sheer material to hang over the bunk bed. In this way our little girl can pull it around when she wants her private little space for play and invention. Pale lilac flowers were sewn on the tent to bring color and playfulness all together.
Kids room decor is a magical opportunity to ignite a child’s imagination as well as interior decorators! Canvas area rugs and canvas wall hangings are a perfect way to customize a room with a child’s passion to create a special place to play, rest and grow.
